The Wearing the Cape Series is a series of 9 books (soon to be 10) that tell the story of Hope Corrigan, aka Astra, as she experiences her breakthrough and becomes a cape. In Wearing the Cape, she begins as a sidekick (hero in training) to Atlas, America’s premier superhero, and makes her debut as Chicago’s newest Sentinel. The series follows Astra’s cape career from newbie sidekick to veteran hero, introducing many new superheroes along the way.
The Wearing the Cape series has been compared to Wildcards, a science-fiction superhero anthology series edited by George R.R. Martin and Melinda Snodgrass, The Boys by Garth Ennis (though much less cynical and more optimistic), and Powers by Brian Bendiss. Like them it plays with superheroes and social realism; how would superheroes behave in the real world? And how would we respond to them? The series has spawned a side story, Bite Me: Big Easy Nights, and a spinoff series, Capes.
